Just as I parked my car at Clark Park it started raining. Not heavy, but noticeable spots. Damn. Not good. I walked the half mile or so up the hill to Woodlands and scouted possible shooting locations. There was a tree bathed in green-gold fire. Perfect! Looking around, I saw three color scheme options: green-gold, deep green and red-umber. I liked what I saw. But the rain was starting to beat a little faster.
I also looked around for a pathway to provide some leading lines in a shot I wanted to try out. I lifted my camera out of my bag and attempted to focus where I imagined Ryan standing. Expecting the gentle focusing beep to let me know I had what I wanted, I received silence. Hmm, why isn't the lens focusing? I looked down at the camera for inspiration and dread descended ... The memory card door was open. I'd forgotten to re-insert the card! Nooo!
I'd just broken one of the cardinal rules of photographry: "don't forget your memory card!" Simple enough on the face of it. I guess I'll have to make each mistake at least once.
I started rummaging through my kit bag for the spare memory cards. Also not present. !!!!
I walked back towards the University of the Sciences assuming, incorrectly, that an institution of higher learning would definitely have a shop that sold memory cards. They didn't. There was only one option left. Honesty.
Calling Ryan on my cell phone we agreed that the rain was not going to be a big barrier, but I confessed that without a memory card the session was a bust. Ryan, ever dauntless, rode their bike home to find a spare card and a wonderfully mischievous portrait session.
