The refrain I read a lot from master photographers to noobs is that "the best camera is the one you have with you." It's so true - you can only take a photo with the camera that is with you, and for many of us that is an iPhone or Android Phone.

Sadly, my phone is lousy at autofocus. By the time it has focused the subject has well and truly moved on. As I move into owning my identity as artist and photographer I keep my camera with me all the time. Sam bought me a wonderful canvas messenger bag that has padding for cameras and extra lenses. Even when I'm not planning to shoot I carry it with me ... just in case.

This image is a great reminder that you never know when a shot will manifest itself. I nearly missed it, struggling to retrieve my camera from the bag behind the drivers' seat (I was sitting at a red light). I would have loved a longer zoom, but 55mm was all I could get at the time. The point is, I got the shot! I love the lateral motion blurr, the bright yellow on the dull colored background, and in hindsight, if I'd zoomed in much more the car's diminutive size wouldn't be as apparent.
