Ask Ten Project #4: The Parkourists
Imagine my surprise coming across a group of Parkourists at Spruce Street Harbor?! These guys were young, mixed in skills and very happy to have me photograph them in flight. Here are some high-lights!
Dismount.
Backflip.
Landing.
In flight.
A learning for me coming out of this shoot is that using the wide angle zoom (18-55mm) at it's widest gives a great perspective effect, but it's really important to get close to the person - a foot, a hand, their face. Never having photographed parkour before it was difficult for me to anticipate where the person was going to head, at which point they would go 'in flight' and which way they were going to face (away from where I was positioned, or towards me). Additionally, this was all freeform, so there were multiple people in action at the same time.
I had tons of fun and would love to photograph these guys again.
