One of my favourite locations to photograph is in Port Richmond along the Delaware River. There are wide grassy fields rich with wild flowers, grasshoppers and that wonderful feeling of being truly alone in nature.
I hadn't been to visit this location for over a month and wondered what it would be like now that Fall is in full swing. Gone were the wild daisies, in their place were fluffy golden grass reeds. The sun was reasonably low in sky, filling the feathery seed tufts with light.
One of the first "rules" of photography I ever heard of was, "always shoot with the sun behind you." BORING! I love shooting into the sun! Objects light up in magestic and unpredictabled ways. Backlit reeds, glowing leaves, craggly shadows. Shooting into the light takes a little forethought, but it makes for far more interesting photographs. I hope you enjoy these and find ways to push back against the rules!
